Sale of Alcohol to Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2013

The above Regulations were laid before the Scottish Parliament yesterday with a view to them coming into force on 1 October 2013.

As previously reported in our article 'Scotland-Identification', the Regulations will change the list of acceptable documents when trying to establish a person's age when selling alcohol. From 1 October 2013, the acceptable forms of ID will be:

• Passport;
• European Union photocard driving licence;
• Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card);
• Photographic identity card bearing the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram;
• National identity card issued by a member State (other than the United Kingdom), Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland; and
• Biometric Immigration Document.

Until then, the acceptable documents to establish a person's age for selling alcohol remain:

• Passport;
• European Union photocard driving licence; and
• Photographic identity card of a type approved by the British Retail Consortium for the purposes of the Proof of Age Scheme.
